3 Ways to Repurpose Your Guest Podcast Episodes as The Guest (and Not The Host)
Technically, you can use these tips as the host, too, but as the guest, you have rights to your content, too!
While you probably won’t be publishing the same episode on your OWN podcast (if you have one—and that’s not completely unheard of, either), there are soooo many opportunities to repurpose the podcast episodes where you’re the guest!
Podcast guesting is one of the best networking tools for entrepreneurs and coaches—but it’s also one of the easiest ways to create content. And as someone who helped create this content, you have a right to repurpose it!
Wondering why this doesn’t sound like the usual Better Brave blog post? It’s because this post is written by Mckayla of The Comma Mama Co., blog content writer and SEO strategist specializing in all things Pod to Blog™ (and I’m a guest courtesy of Candace <3).
What is Podcast Repurposing?
Before we get into what you can do with your guest episodes, let’s talk about podcast repurposing.
First rule: it’s not copy/pasting content!!
Podcast repurposing is taking your podcast content and giving it a new purpose, and if you copy/paste it to different platforms, I PROMISE you, you won’t get the results you’re hoping for. That’s like copy/pasting your transcription and sending it to your email list, using it as an IG caption, and posting it to your blog and calling it a day.
What you’ll need to do instead is take those golden nuggets from your episode and repurpose them to use on your platform. Sometimes this will look more true to the original podcast (like audio clips published via Reels), and sometimes it’ll look a little more vague—like grabbing your top three tips shared and turning them into a carousel.
Now that we’ve covered the essentials, let’s talk about what you CAN do to repurpose your guest podcast episodes:
3 Ways to Repurpose Your Guest Episodes When You’re The Guest
There are two directions you can take when you’re repurposing your guest episodes:
Repurposing just your part of the episode and turning it into all-new content.
Repurposing the entirety of the episode and using it to also market said episode.
If you’re going route number two, it never hurts to get in touch with the podcast host and clarify what they’re comfortable with! Most times they’re MORE than happy—especially if it brings more eyes to their show, too!
But here are a few ideas on what you can do:
#1. Creating the Classic IG Carousel
This is one of my personal favorites when it comes to social media and podcast repurposing because it’s an opportunity for mixed media. You can use quotes, paraphrase, or even add audio clips directly from the episode.
One guest episode can even create multiple carousels by pulling out those key points you share and spinning them from different POVs.
#2. Turning Your Guest Episode into an Email
This is a great way to shout out the host and send listeners to the OG episode while giving subscribers enough information to learn just from you, too! For example, you can write your usual email following a similar cadence as your podcast (or those key points).
Then, at the end of your email, you can CTA your offer/freebie and the OG episode!
#3. The Pod to Blog Post
When you think of guest episodes, you don’t usually assume they’ll be the best ones for blog posts—or you assume they’ll be written in the “she said, they said” format, which is almost the opposite of what it is. Instead, you’ll pull the key points and build out the normal blog post structure!!
And yes, this is still great for SEO—some of the members of the OG round of Pod to Blog™ used guest episodes as their first three to repurpose, and they’re some of their top-ranking posts on Google!
Make Your Guest Episodes Work Harder (so You Don’t Have to)
You’ve put in the work to be a great guest—you showed up, shared your expertise, and delivered value. Now it’s time to make sure that content keeps working for you longggg after the episode goes live (even when it’s not on your own show).
The three ways shared are just the beginning—you can repurpose your podcast to any platform with just a quick shift in approach and thinking. And by repurposing, you’re saving literal hours of content ideation, planning, and even some creation.
And if you’re looking for something “actionable” to do now, here are your next steps:
Pick one guest episode from the last few months
Choose one of the three repurposing methods above
Set aside 30 minutes this week to create that first piece of repurposed content
